The European stag beetle (Lucanus cervus)...

 is the largest beetle in Sweden. It is fairly common in Svångemåla thanks to a lot of old oak trees where they live and breed.

They are surprisingly fast and it was difficult to get a sharp picture but this one gives you an idea of how big they are. The male, like this one, is much bigger than a female but I have been told that the females are stronger!
