Evening walk

This evening I saw for the first time a moose laying down to rest. It stood up when I first spotted it but when I took the first picture it was already partly down.

A deer saw me and stopped for a while to take a closer look at me.

Cousins ?

There are many kinds of wagtails. The most common is the white wagtail (Motacilla alba) but not so far from Svångemåla, you can also see the western yellow wagtail (Motacilla flava). 

It must be nice to be able to sit in the sun, open your mouth and dinner flies straight in! :)

Örarevet 29 May

Although Svångemåla is in the middle of a big forest, it only takes about 35 minutes to get to the sea and in particular to a small protected area called Örarevet. Its nature is very different from the inland forest and the birds are different.

Early morning walk

I am not too keen on leaving my bed in the morning but on the 26th of May I decided to take a walk already at five when the sun had just been up about one hour. It was amazing! The birds were singing like crazy, the moon could still be seen and a slight mist was still hovering over the field. The crane was already picking food and to my surprise, a deer was just beind it. 

The deer is not that easy to spot but click on the picture and you will see it!

Airbeeandbee :)

Bee and other insects are very important to the wellbeing of us all and to get more of them to Svångemåla, a small airbeeandbee has just opened on the wall of a shed. So far very few guests have checked in but I am sure it will be fully booked soon!

The white-backed woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos) ???

Help !  Is this the very rare White-backed Woodpecker or the more common Lesser Spotted Woodpecker (Dryobates minor) ? A friend, who is also far more knowledgeable than I am, has concluded that it is a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and although it would have been exciting to have a White-backed in our region, I am still happy to have this one around! 

Marsh tit (Poecile palustris)

I am so happy to have this little bird in my garden. Its song is so wonderful and makes me smile every time I hear it. Click on the pictures to see the details!

Mistle thrush (Turdus viscivorus) ?

I am confident that this is some sort of thrush but there are so many of them and I am not sure which one this is. If  you know, please let me know in Swedish or English!

Marsh tit (Poecile palustris) ?

As all followers of this blog know, I am not a bird expert but I just love them!  This time I have spotted a small, friendly looking bird that I am now almost sure is a Marsh tit (Poecile palustris) . As most small birds, it is not easy to find, focus and take a shot of them, but I hope you can still identify the bird.

Wood Nuthatch

There is an old European Aspen (Populus tremula) at the far end of our plot. It has provided shelter for several different bird families during the years as I have reported in previous posts on the blog.

This year one of the two "apartments" is once again occupied by a couple of Wood Nuthatch (Sitta europaea). It is an interesting little bird that supposedly is the only one that can go head first down a tree! When I saw them a week ago it they had just started to clean out the nest and I hope they are still there when I get back in a couple of weeks.
